OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of Storeroom supervisory personnel; the Warehouse Parts Clerk role is a hybrid role that combines inventory management, shipping / receiving, and customer service. You will act as the vital link between SEPTA's Supply Chain and it's many servicing areas / teams that require many components to keep operations running. Key responsibilities include: Conducting regular counts of parts on hand, tracking usage, and ensuring system records match physical stock. Unloading and inspecting incoming deliveries (dip-stick fuel, anti-freeze, transmission fluid etc.), verifying accuracy against packing slips, and placing items in correct bin locations. Keeping storage facilities, racking, and bins clean, organized, and compliant with safety codes.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stock bins and /or rack with materials according to class / lot numbers and/ or other formats.
- Receives material (deliveries via UPS, FedEx, Motor freight, etc.) and obtains proper signatures. Enters receipt data into personal computer and / or mainframe software application. Follows departmental shipping, receiving, and other processes.
- Orders dip-stick fuel, anti-freeze, transmission fluid, and other fluid tanks daily, according to procedure. Maintains logs of reading and order quantities as needed from vendor.
- Inventories materials daily and weekly as required.
- Maintains storeroom, bins, racking / shelving, and floors in a clean and orderly fashion. Performs general cleaning of storeroom area which includes removing trash and sweeping floors.
- Operates forklift and other material handling equipment for loading, unloading, put away, and movement of materials at parent and dependent locations. Performs daily equipment maintenance such as recharging electrical equipment, safety checks, and cleaning equipment.
- Reviews all electronic / manual transfers, requisitions, and other documentation for accuracy and completion. Rejects inaccurate or incomplete paperwork. Release materials with proper documentation.
- Maintains vehicle unit storage and inventory. Tracks needed vehicle units being repaired. Packages and ships units for repair; receives repaired units as required.
- Receives and ships transferred materials from and to affiliated storerooms; checks or initiates shipping manifest; packages material accordingly and obtains signature.
- Utilizes personal computer and mainframe software applications for inventory and documentation purposes.
- Responds and assist shop window requests for materials. Identifies and locates needed parts using both electronic and hard copy vehicle parts catalogue.
- Handles and stores hazardous material in accordance with proper procedures.
- Request minimum / maximum inventory level changes as usage indicates.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned, i.e. maintaining filing system for storeroom documentation.
- Communicate daily with Supply Chain and Operations Management to facilitate required material.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License required
- Working knowledge of general and specific materials used in support of fleet maintenance (or other relevant maintenance and operating environments). This would also include familiarity with the use of parts books to reference and identify materials as required.
- Must pass basic math test through SEPTA'S CRC Testing Center
- Must qualify on forklift operations.
- Must be able to lift a maximun of 70 pounds and possess knowledge of fundamental inventory techniques.
MINIMUM NEW EXPERIENCE AND WORKING KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED ON THE JOB:
- Knowledge of department and Authority policies and procedures.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and familiarity with the Authority mainframe applications.
- Proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Forklift, pickers, and other material handling equipment; personal computer and various software products.
PHYSICAL:
Approximately 20% sitting; 80% standing and moving about; lifts a maximum of 70 pounds.
Climbs ladder to remove material from bins.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Dust and dirt from material. Noise from shop. Carbon monoxide from tow-motor trucks.
Dust blown into storeroom from cleaning process in shop. Exposure to inclement weather conditions.
