We are seeking candidates for the position of Vehicle Technical Manager (7367) - Vehicle Technology in the REE&M/REM Woodland Shops.

Salary Range: Min: $89,908.00 - Mid: $112,398.00 - Max: $134,888.00 

       

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

REE&M - Vehicle Technology

This position’s primary responsibility is leading all technical aspects of the maintenance / overhaul of vehicle electronic system assemblies and components across all modes. As a technical lead, this position is responsible for defining and coordinating the Vehicle Technology’s maintenance tasks on a large scale. As an individual researcher, this Vehicle Technical Manager is responsible for researching engineering concepts that are of high complexity and can be incorporated into VOH scope of work development or other maintenance related activities. The Vehicle Technical Manager must have extensive knowledge of engineering and business practices applicable to leading the Vehicle Technology group’s initiatives.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

REE&M – Vehicle Technology

  1. Consults with managerial level staff as necessary in project/program definition.
  2. Exercises proper judgement in the application of advanced engineering principles.
  3. Develop the Electronics Lab support Scope of Work for various fleets entering the VOH program.
  4. Assists in the preparation of budgets for proposed projects/programs/work.
  5. Demonstrates excellent technical writing skills.
  6. Provides highly specialized technical expertise in support of vehicle technology project/program activities.
  7. Interacts frequently with (shop) customers to keep them informed of project status; assesses customer satisfaction; receives new work requests; and provides guidance.
  8. Provides mentorship to junior engineering staff.
  9. Coordinates quality control objectives and activities to resolve VOH production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
  10. Supports NRV, REE&M, AEE&M, and RRD for all matters concerning Vehicle Technology.
  11. Will be responsible for the upkeep and calibration of all test equipment within the Vehicle Technology group.
  12. Monitors and evaluates the overall effectiveness of vehicle systems maintenance procedures and materials. Applies findings to the improvement of quality, productivity, safety, and service reliability.
  13. Develops and implements policies, procedures, practices, with monitoring and stimulating the improvement of vehicle systems and materials quality to achieve the objective of increased system reliability.
  14. Establishes and maintains effective liaison with vehicle shops and material users throughout SEPTA and outside vendors/contractors. Such liaison shall provide for customer feedback and integration of such data into VOH activities.
  15. Supports technical aspects of vehicle systems operational and repair functions for new vehicle procurement projects.
  16. Provides technical direction to vehicle maintenance personnel upon request.
  17. Generates cost analysis in justification of vehicular systems retrofit(s).
  18. Participates in periodic review of drawings and specifications.
  19. Assists manager on request in furtherance of his/her duties.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

REE&M – Vehicle Technology

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology-related discipline and a minimum of six (6) years’ relevant experience required.
  • In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e., two (2) years of related experience, equating to one (1) year of formal post high school education) may be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals at all levels required.
  • Valid driver’s license, required.
  • A working knowledge of Vehicle Overhaul Programs; maintain a working understanding of activities in the department required.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Experience with rail and/or bus vehicle technology system maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience with vehicle system networks is preferred
