OVERALL DESCRIPTION

As a vehicle equipment maintenance specialist, diagnoses, disassembles, replaces, cleans, reassembles, rewires and adjusts mechanical, electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Diagnoses defects of vehicles and mechanical, electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment to determine extent of repairs, adjustments or replacements required. 
  2. Disassembles, replaces, cleans, reassembles, rewires and adjusts electrical equipment or parts of controls, accelerators and other items. 
  3. Disconnects wiring and bolts and removes controllers from compartments. 
  4. Troubleshoot to module and component level and do the necessary replacement of modules and components. 
  5. Replaces platform controllers, junction boxes. 
  6. Relocates and rearranges auxiliary control and power wiring and makes electrical repairs due to burn-outs. 
  7. Installs and replaces wiring in complete electrical circuits or components such as control unit, interlock, contractor, power resistors. 
  8. Performs emergency duties on street; replaces trolley poles, ropes, harps, retrievers, shoes, tires, fuses, light bulbs, adjusts doors, windshield wiper arms; disconnects wires from group circuits at fuse of terminal panels; operates coach to carhouse; performs other similar duties. 
  9. Cleans, buffs, grinds, and files component parts of controllers, contactors, and drills holes in junction boxes or for cable and pipe cleats. 
  10. Makes adjustments on control panels. 
  11. Removes, replaces, and reconnects batteries. 
  12. Removes and replaces accelerator and brake cables. 
  13. Removes, repairs and replaces climate control related components. 
  14. Performs any welding, heating or gas cutting operations required. 
  15. Read tests vehicles to observe diagnostic tester, operating performance and determine acceleration and deceleration rates; uses diagnostic tester, ammeter, voltmeter and accelerometer; corrects rates and other troubles. 
  16. Performs duties of and directs activities of employee of lower classifications as required. 
  17. Clears and cleans work area. 
  18. Accomplishes daily work report; submits report to Foreman. 
  19. Transports items by hand or Authority vehicle. 
  20. Performs related work in the accomplishment of assigned duties. 
  21. Subject to call during storms and emergencies. May work in stooped, bent, cramped positions or from ladders or scaffolds. 

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years technical school. 
  • Must satisfactorily complete written qualification tests and performance tests as follows: Climate control, Advance Electricity, Electronics, Intermediate Mathematics, Chassis-body. 
  • Must have two years related experience, be proficient in working from mechanical, years related experience, be proficient in working from mechanical, electrical, electronic, logic and pneumatic drawings and schematics. Familiar with current and voltage waveforms and graphs. Familiar with interpretation of circuit configurations and integrated circuit logic flow diagrams. 
  • Must possess valid driver's license. 
  • Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.
