We are seeking candidates for the position of Transmission Repair Specialist (0600) in the AEE&M/Berridge Mechanical Shops.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
To be proficient in the diagnosis of complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubles; in the disassembly, inspection, repair, replacement, adjustment, reassembly of all hydraulic transmissions and for transmission control units, harnesses, and related electrical circuits for all units used in coach application and other Automotive equipment as required. Must aid in the training of lower class mechanics in line of progression.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic; failure of extremely technical nature; determines in general extent of repair or replacement required in the failed unit (transmission) to produce a quality product (rebuild); tests, diagnosis, troubleshoots, repairs and adjusts all types of hydraulic transmissions used in the Authority's coach application.
- Disassembles, cleans, inspects, checks sizes of internal assemblies and subassemblies to ensure compliance with manufacturer/ Authority acceptable specifications; uses micrometers, veneers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and special test equipment as required to make determinations.
- Diagnose and test transmission units on dyno after completion of building process. Make necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure successful test (pass); all hydraulic transmissions used in coach application.
- Documents all readings and procedures performed during dyno test, records in log books, and fills proper failure documents as required for all hydraulic transmissions in coach application in the Authority fleet.
- Evaluates clutch pack, seals, bearings, bearing surfaces, shafts, sleeves, springs, and bores for reuse or replacement during rebuild process.
- Examines, repairs, replaces, reworks valve body assemblies as required; examines, repairs, replaces hydraulic pumps as required.
- Works from hydraulic/electrical schematics in diagnose of unit failure while evaluating failure at operating location.
- Diagnose body harness defects on coaches that are related to transmission unit or transmission control of all Authority transmissions in coach application.
- Assists in chronic or technical failures experienced at operating locations.
- Builds all hydraulic transmission units in acceptable time limitations.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
- Performs duties of and directs activities of lesser classifications as required.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Must satisfactorily complete Transmission Specialist written and performance test.
- Must possess tool pertinent to the occupation as required by the SEPTA - TWU Contract Agreement.
- Class "B" Commercial Driver's License required.
