We are seeking candidates for the position of Track Inspector/Maintainer 1st Cl (1201) in the .
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Inspects track, reports and records track and switch conditions. Makes appropriate emergency repairs, removes obstructions and fire hazards, installs signage. Performs other functions to ensure hazard-free conditions while maintenance work is being conducted on the tracks.
*Starting Pay Rate: $35.34/hour - After 12 Months: $39.27, based on applicable contract.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspects an assigned area of track under traffic including bridges, trestles and highways, performing functions.
- Checks gage, surface and alignment of track, inspects overhead support poles, contact rails and paving conditions for compliance with SEPTA standards.
- Checks clearance for safe passage for all rail vehicles.
- Reports and records track conditions.
- Tightens and adjusts switches, wedges, frogs, third rail components, rail joints, derails ad other track related devices.
- Installs and maintains appropriate signage for slow zones, work zones, etc.
- Takes action to compensate for track defects.
- Removes obstructions and fire hazards from the track.
- Maintains both track and switch inspection reports.
- Monitors the repair, renewal and construction of track, special work, and third rail, insuring compliance with SEPTA standards.
- Directs and monitors the operation of such equipment as the grinding car, geometry car, production tamper and Sperry car.
- Directs and monitors the activities associated with the thermite welding and cadwelding processes.
- Performs emergency repairs when needed.
- Can be assigned to perform any type of track work related duties such as flagging, track maintenance, ROW cleaning, etc.
- Performs snow and ice work as required.
- Trains and instructs lower classifications in line of progression.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have valid driver's license.
- Must be 213.7 qualified as prescribed by SEPTA's SMW 100 Manual for the Inspection, Maintenance and Construction of Track.
- Must be Track, Flag and Street Work Zone certified.
- Must have minimum of two years of experience in track work
- Must be proficient in the use of ultra-sonic testing equipment to detect internal flaws in rail steel.
- Must satisfactorily complete written qualifications and performance tests as required.
- Must have a DL and obtain a CDL permit during probationary period.
