We are seeking candidates for the position of Signal Draftsperson II (6544) - Communications and Signals in the MOW/Communications and Signals department.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Director of Engineering, prepares detailed communication and signal drawings; prepares design details and layouts; makes calculations; investigates field conditions and measurements; coordinates with other co-workers; performs additional assignments as directed.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares communication & signal drawings for construction of new facilities or modifications to existing facilities and related equipment, including, but not limited to determining standard relay requirements based on contact analysis, creating standard power loop drawings from circuit plans, creating/updating network drawings, cable drawings, site plans, laying out standard main terminal board arrangements, laying out relay rack assignments, and laying out communication and signal case equipment arrangements in accordance with instructions from Director of Engineering or assigned staff Project Designer.
- Makes technical drafting decisions and applies same. Maintains acceptable standards of legibility and accuracy in compliance with departmental practices and schedules.
- Prepares design detailing under general supervision of signal designer.
- Assists with the preparation of the design and layout of entire communications & signal systems under supervision of Director or Project Designer including, but not limited to: network requirements, standard relay requirements based on contact analysis, standard power loop drawings from circuit plans, laying out standard terminal board arrangements, laying out relay rack assignments, and lay out communication and signal case equipment room arrangements.
- Prepares calculations and verifies field measurements in preparation of the above design.
- Prepares cost estimates in preparation of the above design.
- Prepares material lists cost estimates in preparation of the above design.
- Assists in preparation of technical specifications in preparation of the above design.
- Coordinates with other co-workers in the preparation of finished drawings.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a graduate of an accredited drafting or technical school with a certification in AUTOCAD.
- Three (3) years of pertinent communications and signal drafting experience is Preferred.
- Must pass Communications and Signal Draftsperson test.
- Familiar with City, State, and Federal codes, Association of American Railroad Standards, and any other codes pertinent to the work is desired.
- Become familiar with departmental policies, procedures, and design standards. Must maintain familiarity with changes in aforementioned codes and regulations. Required to obtain Road Way Worker or equivalent certification.

PHYSICAL:
- Position: Sitting 75%, moving about 25%
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normal office environment. Field work, as necessary.
