The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.

We are seeking candidates for the position of Sign Maintainer - First Class (1401) in the B&B/Bridges & Buildings.    

SEPTA currently requires all new employees to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination at their pre-employment medical appointment.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Inspects, installs, repairs, and replaces signs, poles, decals, and hardware.  Restores work areas via carpentry, welding and masonry functions.  Repairs and replaces minor issues regarding mechanical and electrical components of signs and equipment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for the installation, repair, and replacement of signs, poles, decals and hardware and the limited diagnosis, repair and replacement of the mechanical and electrical components of signs and equipment.
  2. Inspects signs and determines repair or replacement required.
  3. Welds, solders, fills defects; straightens, patches, splices, dresses to finish by grinding, sanding, filling, metal parts, frames, etc.
  4. Prepares, replaces, cuts and lays cement in place. Patches or renews sign faces or backing materials, frames, glass, etc.
  5. Performs carpentry and masonry work to restore work area to proper condition.
  6. Maintains daily work reports.
  7. Performs other duties related to the performance of the job.
  8. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete written qualifications test and performance test.
  • Subject to call during storms and emergencies.
  • Will work in stooped, bent, cramped positions. Will be working from ladders and scaffolding as required.
