We are seeking to hire candidates for our Rail Vehicle & Equipment Body-Welder-Specialist (0800).    

 

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

As an experienced and certified welder, performs welding operations on Rail Vehicles and associated equipment in accordance with established commercial and departmental specifications, guides, standards, directions (verbal and written).

Compensation Data

Pay Rate $38.68 / $38.72 per Hour. Increase to $42.98 / $43.02 per hour after 1 year

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Welds aluminum, magnesium, alloys, and/or other light metal parts, items, etc. stainless steel.
  2. Welds by arc and fuel gas methods (e.g. oxyacetylene, etc.) uses tig, mig plasma arc and special welding machinery.
  3. Welds joints of dissimilar metals.
  4. Welds and brazes ferrous and nonferrous metals.
  5. Performs all position welding such as vertical, horizontal, overhead and flat welding, etc.
  6. Performs welding operations in accordance with established commercial and departmental specifications, guides, standards, directions (verbal and written) etc.
  7. Sets up and adjusts arc welding machines for proper polarity and current values; adjusts gauges for proper mixture for fuel gas welding and cutting machines.
  8. Sets up and adjusts all ancillary equipment associated with arc, fuel gas or braze welding.
  9. Operates welding machines, acetylene and fuel gas cutting machines, etc. pneumatic and electronic grinders, works with metal cutting equipment.
  10. Performs various body rebuilding and/or repair assignments as required.
  11. Performs various hand tools as required.
  12. Directs activities of employees or lower classifications.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
  14. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have valid PA Driver's License.
  • Must satisfactorily complete qualifications tests as required. Must satisfactorily complete performance test as required. 
  • Must be an experienced and certified welder using fuel gas, ARC welding including gas metal techniques. Must be capable and knowledgeable in welding plain/low carbon steel, low alloy high strength steels, heat treatable steels, and stainless steel.
  • Must be knowledgeable in various "welding joints", proper jigging procedures for distortion control, safety regulations, safety equipment, setting up, adjusting, operation and breaking down of various welding and other related equipment. Must know A.W.S symbols.
