We are seeking candidates for the position of RR Track General Helper (1274) in the Maintenance/Track.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Assists the Track Maintenance team while performing physically demanding tasks which includes removing and replacing track components, perfoming manual excavation, mixing and placing concrete/paving, and lifting/carrying heavy equipment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Remove and replace track components (i.e., rail, ties, third rail, stone ballast, crossovers, switches, mates, guard rails, rail fastening systems). Also, assist in the aligning, surfacing and gauging of tracks.
- Perform manual excavation associated with the removal, replacement and installation of various track components.
- Mix and place concrete, rail channel filler, grout paving and temporary paving.
- Use an maintain tools appropriate to the assigned duties such as rail tongs, spiking hammer, impact wrench, etc.
- Erect temporary lighting at work areas such as string and cluster lights.
- Lift/carry items weighing up to 100 lbs. per equipment piece.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma and/or GED.
- Must have a valid PA Driver’s License or equivalent.
- Must satisfactorily complete written qualifications test; and, must successfully complete required performance test.
