We are seeking candidates for the position of Project Designer (1006) - Automotive Support in the AEE&M/Bus Vehicle Engineering.

Job Grade: SAM 38

Starting Salary: $87,620

Additional $5,000 salary increase for having a Pennsylvania PE License. 

       

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Warranty and Technology

This position is responsible for undertaking engineering assignments that are considered to be of “normal complexity” in size and scope.   This position is further responsible to provide technical support and direction for engineering activities including the definition and coordination for design review and implementation, establishing inspection plans, program/project development and consulting, statistical methods, audits, and continuous improvement approaches to ensure activities are consistent with SEPTA mission values and goals.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Warranty and Technology

  1. General   
    • Consult with senior level engineer/supervision in project definition.
    • Exercise good judgment in application of basic engineering and quality assurance principles.
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets for proposed projects and work to be accomplished through third party.
    • General written memoranda, technical reports, specifications, audits, etc. in a professional manner.
    • Interface with Governmental Agencies and, as necessary, other transit Authorities concerning pertinent matters.
    • Adapt to team efforts where indicated in resolution of matters not suitable for singular contribution.
  2. Vehicle Engineering Disciplines
    • Provide technical assistance to vehicle maintenance personnel upon request.

    • Writes specifications and Request for Proposals and review designs for all bus technology systems including preparing proof of concept. Generates and coordinates design plans and specifications for in-house and 3rd party forces.

    • Define, implement, and document new or more effective maintenance procedures for an assigned fleet of vehicles.

    • Utilizes bus technology systems including AVM, Infotainment, ASAS, Passenger Wi-Fi, analytical systems, program deployment and authentication systems.

    • Utilize computerized maintenance records and systems as an aid in implementing additional proactive maintenance practices and reducing the frequency of mechanical related service disruptions.

    • Provides management with operational data-driven reports that will establish and track efficiency of project(s) and provide basis for management decisions.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews and approves 3rd party designs documents for conformity with established standards.
  • Generates written memoranda, technical reports, audits, etc. in professional, effective manner. 
  • Participates in periodic review of drawings and specifications.
  • Provides, promotes, and enforces safe working conditions in accordance with accepted safety practices and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned   

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bus Engineering

  • Bachelor's Degree, in related field plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience (two years of related experience equating to one year of post High School education), may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.
  • Computer skills required. Must be proficient in MS software applications, including Excel, Access, Outlook and Word.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
