We are seeking candidates for the position of Motor Induction Equip Repair Maintainer First Class (0881) in the REE&M/REM 69th Street Motor Shop.    

Compensation Data

Starting Wage Rate is $37.11/hr. Increase to 41.23 after one year

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

The AC/DC Motor Repairpersons will perform maintenance and repair on all rotating and static electrical induction apparatus, such as motors, generators, armatures, coils, alternators, reactors, shunts and transformers. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

  1. Responsible for the production, overhaul and repair of D.C. Induction Motors including: visual electrical and mechanical inspection, tests (resistance measurement of D.C. induction components), cleaning of apparatus, drying (over/vacuum), retests, re-insulates, (vacuum pressure impregnation as required), bearings installation and lubrication, and spin testing.
  2. Performs retrofits, repair analysis and tests new/rebuilt units under the direction of supervisor. 
  3. Works with gauges, meters, micrometers, and other test instruments/equipment associated with induction apparatus repairs. 
  4. Able to read and interpret schematics, tables, charts, manuals, prints, drawings, and other technical documents. 
  5. Understanding of electrical and basic electronic theory and practices.
  6. Fabricates, assembles, installs and tests components such as: armatures, field coils, motor frames and other associated components. 
  7. Performs proper insulating methods and practices. 
  8. Performs daily and routine operation through the use of standard shop equipment e.g., coupling/bearing press or pullers (manual, hydraulic, pneumatic), insulation testers (meggers, ohmmeters, or other related devices), induction heaters, ovens, oxygen acetylene torches, paint booth, abrasive blast equipment, upenders (or other similar devices to sure motor), and basic tools, test instrument/equipment associated with State-of-the-Art development.
  9. Repairs, maintains, and prepares for overhaul rapid transit D.C. Induction type equipment and systems D.C. Induction motors and major propulsion related control devices, in accordance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operation manuals, procedures, and manufacturers' maintenance/overhaul instructions. 
  10. Directs activities of lower classifications.
  11. Makes out accurate repair work orders/production documents and other documentation as required.
  12. Performs other duties relating to the performance of the job.
  13. Cleans work area. May operate heavy repair machinery, such as cranes. Hoists, table lifts, and fork trucks. Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs. Obtains and maintains local material and tools.
  14. Subject to call during storms and emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be high school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by vocational training in electrical/mechanical training courses and/or with extensive experience in the maintaining of electromagnetic induction components or systems. 
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience in the repair of DC Current Motors Armatures and the ability to work from drawings for electrical/mechanical circuits and equipment. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Must satisfactorily complete qualifications tests.
  • Must possess valid Pennsylvania driver's license or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work variable shifts.    
  • Able to read and interpret schematics, prints, and other technical documents. Understanding of electrical and basic electronic theory and practices.
