We are seeking to hire candidates for our both Maintenance Custodian (non-driving) and Maintenance Custodian Driver (must have a valid driver's license) at work sites throughout the Philadelphia region.

It is important to note that we are recruiting for CURRENT AND FUTURE positions. Our time to hire candidates will depend on the  availability of vacancies and the number of accepted candidates in our pipeline. We value all candidates and we ask that you be patient in working with us.

 

The starting rate of pay for the Maintenance Custodian position is $20.14/hour; after 3 months - $22.52/hour ; after 7 months - $26.50/hour; then there are 2 more progressions before you reach the top rate of $28.20 after 9 years. The Maintenance Custodian Driver rate of pay is slightly higher and you MUST have a valid driver's license.  Maintenance Custodian Drivers working out of SEPTA bus garages must require a CDL permit/license.

 

 

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Sweeps, cleans, washes interior and exterior of vehicles.  Operates passenger vehicle in and around Authority locations. Cleans shop areas, stations, restrooms and other areas as required. 

This position may include climbing onto and off of rail/bus vehicles and working in all types of weather.

Performs other duties including scrapping, painting and loading trash.                                                                                                                                                                                              

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

  1. Must be proficient in the cleaning of vehicles and all areas of the locations listed above, including but not limited to shop areas, platforms, restrooms, administrative areas, etc. 
  2. Operates passenger vehicle in and around the Authority locations.
  3. Scrapes and cleans floors, walls, walks, and all SEPTA facilities.
  4. Paints various items as required, such as shop equipment, facilities, etc.
  5. Sweeps, cleans, washes vehicle interior, exteriors. 
  6. Polices premises for debris, trash and scrap; loads into truck/compactor for removal. Shovels snow from walkways, sidewalks etc. and carries salt/sand bags as needed. 
  7. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have ability to understand and execute written and verbal orders.
  • Most positions require a valid Pennsylvania driver's license or equivalent. · A CDL class B license with a passenger endorsement (with no restrictions) is required for Maintenance Custodian Drivers operating a SEPTA vehicle in the bus garages. If you do not have a CDL class B permit or license, you will need to obtain a CDL Class B permit at the end of your 30 days training.  Some positions, specifically in the Stations Department, do not require driver's licenses.
  • Must possess significant and verifiable janitorial/custodian work experience.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
