OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Must be proficient in Qualified Protection Employee (QPE) Book of Rules and Physical Characteristics of Authority track rights of way and sidings. Must be capable of directing work groups' activities to ensure that SEPTA safety rules are complied with by the workgroups; and to ensure the safe passage of Authority passenger trains and equipment through designated work areas as required. Must be capable of performing all duties of a Track General Helper.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works as a Track General Helper when required.
2. Works as necessary in accordance with various work groups.
3. Works from various picked locations.
4. Must be qualified in QPE Book of Rules and Physical Characteristics and demonstrate proficiency of same. Must maintain and carry all appropriate books and Notices.
5. Must be able to communicate with various outside contractors and SEPTA employees to ensure Authority Rules and Regulations are complied with. Directs activities of contractors' employees to ensure the safety of Authority employees and property in compliance with the Rules of the Authority.
6. Observes work groups to ensure that safe practices are adhered to in compliance with Authority and Safety Operating Rules and Regulations.
7. Writes and executes Form Ws and other forms as required. Places all appropriate restricting stop signs in accordance with QPE Rules as required.
8. Works from both written and telephone instructions and all other forms of electronic communications as applicable.
9. Completes and submits daily forms as required.
10. Immediately notify the Control Center of any hazardous condition along the route or right-of-way or in the event of an emergency.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Subject to call during emergencies and storms, including snow removal.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Must satisfactorily complete all qualification tests as follows:
  • QPE Book of Rules
  • Physical Characteristics - of City and Suburban Division territories.
• Must have a knowledge of SEPTA General and Departmental Rules and Regulations.
• Must satisfactorily complete physical examination.
• Requires use of all limbs, good eyesight, good hearing, agility, and heaving lifting.
