We are seeking candidates for the position of Fire Equip Repairer Spec (1500) in the B&B/Bridges & Buildings.    

 

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Installs, repairs, maintains, and tests all firefighting equipment, systems and apparatuses.  Inspects equipment and related systems and evaluates potential fire hazards.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Installs, repairs, maintains, and tests all firefighting equipment and apparatuses, including sprinkler piping and equipment, fire extinguisher and accessories, fire pumps and controls, alarm, valves, stainers, tanks, hoses, cabinests, hydrants, standpipes, fire doors, and signage located in all areas around the property.
  2. Performs monthly an annual inspections of all firefighting equipment and related systems; records and maintains Files for SAM; signs inspection cards and reports on units as a certified representative.
  3. Evaluates areas for potential fire hazards; determines the classifications of areas and installs the proper fire protection according to the N.F.P.A. code.
  4. Operates pipe threading machine, pipe grooving machine, forklifts, high reaches; drive various vehicles; uses demolition tools, wrenches, power drills and saws, gauges, testing tools, and equipment; hydrant tools, and any other tools pertinent to fire suppression protection.
  5. Cleans and clears work area; carries material, tools, ladders and supplies and sets up scaffolding as required.
  6. Directs activities of employees in lower classifications, or other classifications performing work related to fire suppression equipment.
  7. Writes daily reports and maintains records as assigned; prepares material, equipment and supply lists as required. Makes necessary sketches and lays out work and material.
  8. Cuts, threads, bends, and replaces all types of piping; performs rigging, excavates and fills in as required.
  9. Performs other duties in the accomplishment of assigned work.
  10. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
     

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a minimum two year course in plumbing from an accredited technical school. Proof of successful completion of other training may be submitted, however the hiring department will make the final determination whether the training is appropriate and equivalent.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of the Philadelphia and national fire prevention codes.
  • Must possess a valid Philadelphia fire suppression workers certificate for sprinkler and standpipe systems, special hazard systems and portable fire extinguishers.
  • Must successfully complete all preliminary written and performance tests.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
