We are seeking to hire candidates for our Engineer I (1013) - Coordination Group.

Salary: $72,072 annually

Additional $5,000 for having a Pennsylvania PE/RA license

   

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

This position is in SEPTA’s Coordination Department, supporting the Right-of-Entry (ROE) and Third-Party Coordination program. This department ensures that all external entities performing work on or near SEPTA property do so safely, efficiently, and in compliance with agency standards. This position serves as the central point of contact between SEPTA and external organizations—including PennDOT, the City of Philadelphia, utilities, developers, and contractors—to coordinate construction and maintenance activities that interface with SEPTA infrastructure.

 

This position is responsible for undertaking engineering assignments that are considered to be of "basic complexity" in size and scope.  This position is further responsible to provide technical support and direction for engineering activities including the definition and coordination for design review and implementation, field inspection and monitoring during construction and continuous improvement approaches to ensure activities are consistent with SEPTA mission values and goals.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  1. Consults with senior level engineer/supervision in project definition. 
  2. Exercises good judgment in application of basic engineering and quality assurance principles. 
  3. Generates written memoranda, technical reports, specifications, audits, etc. in a professional manner.  
  4. Assists in the preparation of budgets for proposed work to be accomplished through SEPTA force account labor or third party contractors. 
  5. Interfaces with municipal government/regulating agencies, other railroads and transit properties, and third part contractors.
  6. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities.  Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others

ADDL / DISCIPLINE RESPONSIBILITIES

Right of Entry and Third Party Coordination Disciplines

  1. Documents for record all major design concepts, schedules, approaches, and agreements made with projects. 
  2. Assists Project Manager with meetings and preparation of reports relating to project  status, support and track/power outage requests, and project coordination schedules. 
  3. Assists senior level supervisor(s) in project management tasks including general oversight and interface with multiple construction projects, and planning/coordination of project schedules. 
  4. Provides office and field engineering support to SEPTA Right of Entry (ROE) projects, and monitors construction activities of ROE projects to ensure conformance with approved drawings and site-specific work plans.
  5. Coordinates railroad and transit outages with SEPTA operations and provide qualified protection personnel to third-party contractors on ROE projects.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • B. S. Degree in Engineering required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Must be able to work flexible work shift assignments based on project stages, including on-call duties, nights and weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
