We are seeking to hire candidates for our Engineer I (1013) - Bridges & Buildings.

Job Grade: SAM 36
Starting Salary: $72, 072
Additional $5,000 salary increase for those with a PE/RA License
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for undertaking engineering/quality assurance assignments that are considered to be of "basic complexity" in size and scope. This position is further responsible to provide technical support and direction for engineering/quality assurance activities including the definition and coordination for design review and implementation, establishing inspection plans, program/project development and consulting, statistical methods, audits, and continuous improvement approaches to ensure activities are consistent with SEPTA mission values and goals.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in Engineering inspection, design and analysis in assigned field (Structural).
- Assists in investigations/field surveys.
- Be aware of and practice standards as applicable to assigned field.
- Reviews drawings for accuracy and completeness coordinating with other specialty groups within the department where necessary/advisable.
- Assists in preliminary planning layouts/sketches where dictated by assigned task/project.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDL / DISCIPLINE RESPONSIBILITIES
Right of Way Engineering Disciplines
- Documents for record all major design concepts, schedules, approaches, and agreements made with projects.
- Assists Project Manager with meetings and preparation of reports relating to project status, support and track/power outage requests, and project coordination schedules.
- Performs cyclical inspections of railroad and rail transit right of way, prepare punchlists/reports resulting from each territory, and coordinate any required action with in-house SEPTA forces.
- Assists senior level supervisor(s) in project management tasks including general oversight and interface with multiple construction projects, and planning/coordination of project schedules.
- Provides office and field engineering support to SEPTA Right of Entry (ROE) projects, and monitors construction activities of ROE projects to ensure conformance with approved drawings and site-specific work plans.
- Coordinates railroad and transit outages with SEPTA operations and provide qualified protection personnel to third-party contractors on ROE projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDL / DISCIPLINE RESPONSIBILITIES
Asset Management Disciplines
- Assists in the implementation of SEPTA’s Transit Asset Management Program.
- Inspects and assesses the condition of transit assets.
- Documents lifecycle management data for use in project planning and programming, including: design, condition, and performance criteria, compliance requirements, and maintenance protocol.
- Assists in the implementation, utilization, and optimization of an asset maintenance management system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- B. S. Degree in Engineering, or Bachelor of Architecture required.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office applications required.
- Working knowledge of Autocad version 14 or higher required.
- Must be able to work flexible work shift assingments based on project stages, including holidays, weekend and on-call rotations as needed.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
