We are seeking candidates for the position of Emergency Response Spec (1180) in the MOW/Power.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Performs emergency repairs to mechanical and plumbing systems, third rails throughout the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division. Services other equipment and systems as required.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Services all DC distribution Systems within the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division, including cable, wire, insulators, splices, disconnect switches, breakers, overhead wire, 3rd rail, lightning arrestors, fuses, conduit, poles, crossarms and any other related equipment.
- Services all AC distribution systems within the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division, including cable, wire, insulators, splices, fuses, panels, breakers, disconnect switches, transformers, switches, receptacles, poles, crossarms and any other related equipment.
- Services all lighting systems within the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division. Including light fixtures, wire, conduit, contactors, photocells, panels, switches, and any other related equipment.
- Services all rail switch heaters located within the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division. Including switch heaters, wire, cable, conduit, control boxes, contactors, fuses and any other related equipment. Except routine replacement of heaters.
- Services building electrical heating systems including thermostats, contactors, switches, heating elements, fans, motors, circuit breakers, fuses and any other related equipment.
- Performs emergency repairs to mechanical and plumbing systems throughout the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division, including exhaust fans, supply fans, air compressors, elevators, escalators, heating and cooling systems, plumbing fixtures, water heaters, water coolers, electrically and manually operated doors, lift systems, car and bus washer systems as required.
- Performs emergency repairs to third rail including cover board, brackets, jumpers, expansion joints, insulators, and connectors. Aligns and assists in alignment of third rail. Investigates and determines cause of lost and broken third rail shoes on rail cars.
- Blocks out AC and DC power cables and equipment, using power distribution prints and other drawings. Performs high voltage “switching” as required by SEPTA and/or PECO.
- Maintains spare material inventory in shop. Insures that truck is stocked with material necessary for day-to-day and emergency operations and repairs.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver’s license. CDL class B will be required after hire.
- Must satisfactorily complete written qualification test as required: person must satisfactorily complete all performance tests as required.
- Must meet all qualifications of Lineperson first class.
- Must possess a basic knowledge of electrical theory. Must be able to interpret schematic and full electrical wiring diagrams.
- Must be experienced in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of relays, contactors, electric motors, telephones, lighting fixtures and other miscellaneous electrical fixtures. Must have working knowledge of the AC and DC electrical distribution systems on the Media-Sharon Hill and Norristown Lines and all electrical distribution systems within the jurisdiction of the Suburban Operations Division.
- Demonstrate proficiency in climbing wood and steel poles.
