We are seeking candidates for the position of Electrician-Trainee (0753) in the B&B/Bridges & Buildings.    

  

 

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

To be proficient in the installation, maintenance, and repair, testing, and adjustment of electrical equipment, machinery, and accessories; in the layout and direction of installation of power and lighting equipment and in the performance of related duties under the general supervision of the supervisor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Trained to inspect, clean, repair transformers, invertors, motor alternators, automatictransfer switches, knife switches, fuses or fuse clips, timers, switchboard relays, and contactors. Trained to maintain panel boards.
  2. Trained to inspect, clean, make all repairs to light circuits and related parts, such as renewing lights and sockets; trained to replace photo eyes, replace fuses, and circuit breakers throughout SEPTA.
  3. Trained to inspect, repair sewage injector systems, controls, safety devices, and sump pump motors and accessories.
  4. Trained to install and repair, transformers, switch gear and switchboards. Trained to install and repair bus bars and wiring; install stress cones on cables where applicable.
  5. Trained to install, inspect, maintain, and repair motors and motor controls, clean and maintain bearings, gland valves and governors, cleans adjust brushes.
  6. Trained to install, inspect, and repair air compressor control circuits, including, draining air reservoirs; car, train and bus washers, overhead doors, automatic door openers, hoist, blowers, exhaust fans, cyclone cleaners, battery charging systems and welding machines.
  7. Trained to install, maintain, and repair call bells, security alarm systems, buzzer systems and communications.
  8. Trained to install, maintain, and make repairs to indicating lights, annunciators, incandescent, neon & fluorescent signs and fixtures, berth signs, electric clocks, pass-gate mechanisms, and controls.
  9. Trained to install, maintain, repair and test AC & DC motors and control equipment. Refurbish commutators, install, and adjust field pole pieces.
  10. Trained to maintain power service to all electrical apparatus.
  11. Trained to cut, thread and bend conduit; install conduit, raceway, and wiring.
  12. Operates and services assigned Authority vehicles; maintains daily report of vehicles operating conditions

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Irregular Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists other employees of department in emergency situations.
  2. Cleans wayside equipment of snow and ice during storms.
  3. Assists during emergencies to restore services.
  4. Assists in removal of persons or animals from track or third rail as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must posses a valid driver's license or equivalent and able to obtain CDL..
  • Must be proficient in handling and climbing extension ladders, floodlights towers, and other structures.
  • Must satisfactorily complete qualification test as follows:
    • Advance electricity
    • Electrical blueprint reading
    • Intermediate mathematics
    • Electrical hand tools and NEC Code Book

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Special knowledge and training to be acquired while training.

  • Knowledge of all parts of equipment, machinery, and rigging serviced by the department; locations and layout of City Transit Division; SEPTA General Rules and Regulations.

Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities.  Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees.  Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
