We are seeking to hire candidates for our Director, Engineering/Design (8037).

Salary: $157,456

Additional $5,000 for having a Pennsylvania PE/RA license.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Manages and supervises the design/engineering/maintenance/construction of an assigned section (Power) within the Authority’s Operations Division.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Power

  1. Manages the Power Maintenance Engineering Group within the Power Engineering Department. The Power Maintenance Engineering Group is responsible for providing the necessary engineering support for all maintenance related work.
  2. Manages the Capital Projects Group within the Power Engineering Department. The Capital Projects Group is responsible for the project management and oversight of all capital related projects and includes some design engineering for the capital projects. 
  3. Manages the Sustainability Group within the Power Engineering Department. The Sustainability Group is responsible for the project management and oversight of all Sustainability related project including some design engineering for the sustainability projects. 
  4. Manages the PA One Call database system and dispatching efforts.
  5. Defines functions and goals, establishes priorities, assigns work, mobilize resources and monitors progress for the power engineering department.
  6. Develops standard design details and specifications and standard maintenance programs for overhead contact system, power distribution systems and traction power substations.
  7. Develops feasibility studies and reports, including cost estimates for power related projects. 
  8. Provides the short and long term planning necessary to maintain and upgrade existing power facilities. 
  9. Develops schematic, preliminary and final designs, documents and cost estimates intended for both in-house and third party construction. 
  10. Directs and assists in the review of schematic, preliminary and final designs, documents and cost estimates prepared by third part consultants. 
  11. Manages third party power related design and construction projects.
  12. Maintains company records regarding the physical facilities.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, Construction/Project Management or closely related field and ten (10) years of progressive experience in design, facilities  engineering, or construction management that demonstrates that the individual can satisfactorily execute the technical and supervisory/managerial responsibilities.
  • Professional Registration (PE) preferred.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively, with a wide range of professional, supervisory, and management personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to handle and resolve complex problems related to engineering, construction, project management, and contract administration issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to organize and present technical information and project presentations to various levels of management.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.
  • Internal SAM employees are eligible to apply for open positions (transfer/promotion) after six (6) months from the date of assignment for their current position. A review of the previous one (1) year performance appraisal (to ensure minimum standard of “Meets Expectations” for overall rating) will be conducted. A review of Discipline record, to ensure no discipline actions occurred during previous 1 year of employment will also be conducted.
