We are seeking to hire a candidate for the position of Civil/Track Drafter II (6553) in the MOW/Track Department.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Under supervision from the Manager of Track Engineering, prepares civil and track drawings; prepares design details and layouts; makes calculations; recommends and selects equipment and materials; investigates field conditions; performs additional assignments as directed.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares track drawings for the construction of new facilities or modifications to existing facilities in accordance with instructions from Manager of Track Engineering or assigned Project Engineer including but not limited to grade crossings, crossovers, bridge timbers, rail bending, paving, drainage and grading.
- Prepares design detailing of track and civil assemblies under general supervision.
- Assists with the preparation of design of track components or devises under the supervision of a Project Engineer. Layout of entire civil/track systems under close supervision including but not limited to grade crossings, crossovers, bridge timbers, rail bending, paving, drainage and grading.
- Prepares detailed drawings of track and civil equipment or components, which are utilized to procure new materials.
- Makes drafting decisions in accordance with current department CAD standards.
- Coordinates with other drafters in the preparation of finished drawings.
- Performs field inspections/surveys and field stake-out, basic surveying to verify conditions and measurements shown on prepared plans.
- Oversees PA1 Call, street closures in accordance with MUTCD and GPIS.
- Responds to calls from outside agencies regarding authorization to move high and heavy loads under SEPTA 600 VDC trolley wires. Refers matters to Overhead Power Department when possible conflicts are identified.
- Prepares base plans from surveyor’s notes. Reduces surveyor field notes as required.
- Assists engineering personnel in track and civil field surveys.
- Performs manual calculations for developing contours on site plans.
- Performs additional assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited drafting or technical school with certification in AUTOCAD.
- Minimum three years drafting experience or one year surveying and two years drafting.
- Three (3) years of pertinent civil or track drafting experience preferred.
- Must pass Civil/Track Draftsperson test. Must be familiar with City, State, and Federal codes, and OSHA regulations pertinent to the work.
- Proficiency in Micro Station, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
- Technical Education in drafting required.
- Familiarty with NCS (National CAD Standard) preferred.
- Become familiar with departmental policies, procedures and design standards. Must maintain familiarity with changes in aforementioned codes and regulations.
- Must attain Annual Track and Safety Certification.

- This job requires lifting weight up to 30lbs in field environment (i.e., up hills/tunnels), standing at least 12 hours in support of track construction.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily normal office environment; however, subject to hazards, including inclement weather, while investigating and verifying field conditions and measurements.
- Subject to night and tunnel work.
